Solutions - Workflow

The traditional approach organizations take on large repititous projects is to contract a small group of technicians and have them perform the bulk work one PC at a time. This is both expensive and error prone, as a result the estimate of each project requires additional overhead for error correction. Having this work solved logically instead of physically, the project will cost less and the organization will have these tools for future implementation. Specialized Systems can modify these tools as projects evolve for a fraction of the original development price and much less than organizing yet another team of technicians.

Solutions - Point-to-Point Bridges / Wireless Distribution Systems (WDS)

Specialized Systems can assist with point-to-point wireless solutions for metropolitan area networks or campus area networks. Wireless point-to-point bridges are used in situations where a temporary facility such as an on-site trailer is setup or where underground wiring for permanent facilities is either too expensive or impossible. While reliable out of the box solutions can be purchased from vendors such as Cisco, these solutions are very expensive. Specialized Systems uses the consumer-grade Linksys / Cisco WRT54G access points running a specially designed appliance grade Linux distribution with third party antennas from Hyperlink Technologies.

For campus-wide network access for laptop users as well as network based appliances such as bar-code scanners, inventory carts, etc. a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) can provide seamless network connectivity to your corporate network. Using WDS technology, as a wireless client device moves within a WDS grid, the wireless connection is transparently reconnected to the access point with the strongest signal. This prevents any interruption in connectivity as well as the need for user interaction. This WDS solution can be cost effective using the Linksys / Cisco WRT54G consumer-grade routers running specialized Linux distributions. We design the software and make recommendations on your grid design, including the logistics concerning interference and signal attenuation.


Solutions - Site-to-Site LAN VPNs

Specialized Systems provides site to site VPN solutions utilizing the Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS routers. These routers both cost under $100.00 and provide exceptional reliability and performance. We have designed a package that will reliably and securely connect all of your remote locations with your host location using the open source OpenWRT Linux OS and the open source OpenVPN SSL VPN package. Most VPN solutions cost well over $1000.00 dollars for hardware and licensing for only 2 sites (host location and 1 remote office). Specialized Systems can provide you with VPN services for all remote sites for significantly less than other vendors charge for a single remote site.
