VNCPull installs the VNC software on Microsoft Windows 9x and Windows
NT/2k/XP/2003 workstation and server platforms. VNCPull complements the
VNCPush application by allowing the VNC Server software to be "pulled" to the
computer instead of being "pushed". VNCPull is designed for situations where
remote authentication is not available for example when the client is running
Windows 9x, or non-domain NT computers where the local administrator password
is unknown.
VNCPull can be downloaded by the user either via HTTP or from a Windows
shared folder on a local network. To install the VNC software with VNCPull,
run vncpull.exe. This will install VNC including all necessary registry
entries and start the VNC server application. The default password is
"letmein". Have the user place their mouse over the icon in the system tray,
this will show their IP address. Once the support session is finished, have
the user remove VNC by running vncpull.exe again. The vncpull.exe application
will recognize that it is installed and therefore uninstall itself. The
uninstall routine will stop any running instance of the VNC server, remove
all files installed and remove all registry entries created during
installation.
The VNCPull workflow is as follows:
Have the user download and run the vncpull.exe application either via HTTP, Windows shared folder, floppy disk, etc...
Have the user report the IP address by placing mouse over the VNC server icon in the system tray.
Connect to the user's IP address with the VNC Viewer application. Use the password letmein to authenticate.
Provide necessary support as required. Disconnect from the client's VNC server application.
Have the user run the vncpull.exe application again to completely uninstall the VNC server software.
VNCPull Notes:
VNCPull is most usesful within LAN environments supporting unorganized local networks. You cannot connect to the client's VNC server session if the client is behind a firewall unless you can configure their firewall to open port 5900 to that computer. You will have to use the VNCHelp application to reverse the connection in most cases.
VNCPull should already be stored for immediate retrieval by the user in a globally accessible Windows share (\\fileserver\public). This speeds up the process of getting the support underway and the most complicated part will be having the user navigate to the share.
VNCPull - Features
The primary feature of VNCPull is that it does not require the user to go
thru the installation process of the VNC server software setup routine. It
is a pre-configured package that self installs / uninstalls with a
mouse-click. VNCPull runs on all 32-bit Windows platforms by design and only
contains the minimum VNC files necessary to run. VNCPull is a tightly
compressed package that is less than 200k.
VNCPull is written in the MS-DOS Batch scripting language. This language is
fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 9x and Windows NT/2k/XP/2003
workstation and server platforms.
