Encryption (or, to be more precise, cryptography) is the art of storing
information on paper or anywhere else in a form which allows only
authorized personnel to understand and use it. If an unauthorized person
were to look at the information he or she would only see sequences of
meaningless characters and symbols. An encryption system is what is used
to accomplish cryptography. An encryption system is used to translate
the stored information into useful, meaningful information (decryption).
